Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Pavlo Klimkin, held a working visit to London on 10-11 February 2016, where he met with the Chairman of the British Ukrainian Society, Lord Risby, and the Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Ukraine, Sir Gerald Howarth MP.

While in London, the Foreign Minister also met with the British Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, and with other British government officials and MPs.

The British and Ukrainian politicians discussed British support for Ukraine, and working together on the UN Security Council. Security and prosperity were other key topics of discussion, as was the situation in Crimea, in particular human rights violations there.

The Ukrainian delegation thanked the UK for providing trainings for Ukraine’s military units, and the UK committed to provide additional technical assistance. The Ukrainian delegation also invited the UK to join efforts on the de-occupation of Crimea; Mr Hammond noted that Crimea is facing a humanitarian crisis. The UK and Ukraine will continue working together to release Ukrainian hostages held in Russia.

Commenting on his meeting with Mr Klimkin and other members of the Ukrainian delegation, Lord Risby said, “Support for Ukraine’s democratic process is total in the UK Parliament.”

The new Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Nataliia Galibarenko, also joined the discussions. It was the first time Her Excellency had visited Parliament since taking residence in late December 2015.
